The Pitchfork Disney by Philip Ridley - Lumley Studio, Canterbury, December 2006

Pitchfork Disney explores two adults who are locked in childish fantasies blurring the boundaries of their reality. The space I created for this production focused on the images that derived from Presley imagination. My inspiration came from how he describes his post-nuclear world as "a wasteland" with "burnt and blistered…scorched wood" I wanted to combine in an abstract manner a decaying room that has not changed in ten years since their parents 'disappeared' and Presley's post-nuclear ruin. From this I created a dominating encroaching angular space with jutting beams of wood. The idea was to create a harsh, unforgiving, nightmarish atmosphere to correspond with Presley's warped mind.
